A fabulous hand painted faience oyster plate made by Saint- Jean de Bretagne, near Quimper, France – circa 1950s -1960s. Saint-Jean de Bretagne earthenware became a thriving industry after the Second World War. Each boldly coloured plate has six orange wells shaped as scallop shells separated by sprigs of green seaweed. A central round well is for lemons or a dipping sauce. The wells and rim are highlighted with black against a cream background.
