Striking 19th-century French Majolica asparagus platter from Salins Les Bain, featuring the beloved “chou” (cabbage ware) design. This beautifully molded piece showcases richly textured cabbage leaves in vibrant green tones framing a cream center with raised channels—perfectly designed for serving asparagus. Subtle hand-painted details, including soft green speckling and hints of naturalistic shading, enhance its rustic French charm.
The glossy glaze displays age-appropriate crazing and a warm, authentic patina that collectors of barbotine ceramics prize. A wonderful example of antique French pottery, ideal for display or as a standout piece in a country kitchen setting.
This platter is described in detail in the specialist book on Asparagus Dishes by Maryse Bottero.
