Rare 19th-century French Majolica asparagus platter by Salins, handmade in the late 1800s by the master potters of the former monastic monastery Les Capucines in Salins-lès-Bains (Lorraine).
A beautifully hand-decorated platter with artichoke leaves and a basketweave border. A fine example of antique French pottery, this richly glazed platter features classic molded wells for serving sauce. Lovely patina, all-over crazing, and vibrant naturalistic detail make it an excellent collector’s piece. A must-have for lovers of French Majolica, barbotine ceramics, and rustic farmhouse tableware.
This platter is described in detail in the specialist book on Asparagus Dishes by Maryse Bottero.
